How To Configure D-Link 2750U ADSL Modem Yourself
Now a days, most people have broadband connection at their home. Many modems fail mainly due to power fluctuation, lightning, and overheat. You can buy a variety of modems from flipkart,snapdeal and ebay. But it is then you will regret that you didnt learn to configure it, and wait for the service person to reach your home
Now dont be desperate because i am today teaching you how to configure your modem the Hard-Way, (as in modern operating systems, other than windows xp, the software disc bundled with the modem dont work.)
The steps to configure the modem can be split into 5
1. Login to interface
2. Configure ATM
3. Configure WAN
4.Configure wireless-(wi-fi)-optional
5.Save and reboot modem
Now we can see them in detail
1.Login to interface
- Goto any web browser and type 192.168.1.1 (in case of d-link modems)
- a login box will appear.Enter in both field 'admin'
- Now you will be logged in and presented with this page.This is the overall status..In new modems-unconnected ones,first time installation, the uplink and downlink speeds may not be present. Dont worry, as they would appear as soon as you configure the modem
- select 'advanced settings from left side menu'.You can see a similar page then
2.Configure ATM
- click on 'Add' button at DSL ATM configuration page shown.This will take you to a new page
- For BSNL connections, VPI-0,VCI-35
- For MTNL connection VPI-0,VCI-38
- If you dont know the VPI and VCI just google it in your mobile before you proceed as wrong values wont connect modem to WAN
- select path0,EOA, mode-LLC/BRIDGING/SNAP (varied in different firmwares)
in mine, its LLC/SNAP/BRIDGED - Keep Qos schedulder to strict priority
- click next.You can see a page like this then
3.Configure WAN
- Click on WAN interface inside advanced settings and it will take you to a page like below
- click on Add. and it will show you to a new page
- click on next
- select pppoe if you want the modem to be always on (even when desktop off),so that you can use internet in laptops and wi-fi devices
- select bridge mode if you want the connection only when the desktop pc is turned on and dialled the connection from pc---note:no devices can connect unless you dial from your desktop(wired pc)
- click next.After this phase you can see a window like below picture
TOP HALF
- enter username as given by your service provider.For BSNL users, the id format is idphoneno_scdridie; if your phone no is 2554546, then your id isid4912554546_scdrid
- enter password.This is password itself unless you changed it in BSNL portal login
- service name: enter any name here i used BB
- authentication method-autoenable firewall (disable if you want high speed in torrents,by allowing ports incoming and outgoing in modem,you can enable firewall if you need safety)
- dont enable manual MTU
- dont enable ppp ip extension
- if you were given a static IP, enter it in static ip tab,else leave it unticked,so that you will be assigned a dynamic ip automatically
BOTTOM HALF
- dont enable pppDebug
- dont enable Keep Alive
- enable Bridge pppoe frames option for good torrent response
- click next
- click next--nothing to do here
- unless you want a different DNS dont change this option
- click next
- click apply/save.You will be taken to the below page
- All set.Wait a second.You should see the internet light blinking now
- If you see a RED internet light,then your password/username is incorrect
- If after doing all the steps correctly,and internet light doesnt go on, then contact your service provider to check the connection from exchange
- Click device info to see a page as below to ensure your connection is all set.
4.wireless configuration
- select the wireless tab on the left and select basic settings
- Enable wireless
- change your country
- select security tab
- click apply/save
- Only select this if you want to assign a password.Else your connection will be open for all users nearby
- Select network authentication as WPA-Personal
- Enter a passphrase at given colum.This will be your password
- click apply/save
- close your browser
