What does custom robot header tags do? 


The custom robot header tags provide additional directions to the crwaling bot, how to index the page. The best practise is to allow all indexing except archives and search pages. This can be done easily on blogger


Where to find the setting ?


Navigate to blogger button on left--expand the drop down and select settings.

Select settings--and in search preferences, you can find the custom robots header tags with edit on side


When clicked on edit, a window opens and make changes as below


This can improve your SEO score pretty much and results in more income if you have ads enabled in your site by ad providers. This technique was un-revealed to blogger users-Those who used blogger to hoist their site and link to an external domain. This resulted in losing ranks to a lot of users. Any template changes may sometime result in changing the values. So if you made a template change recently, check that it still exists as above diagram

Explanation

The 'all' enabled allows to index all pages in homepage. The 'noindex' tells the crawlers to never index a search or archive page.

Robots.txt ?


What does really robots.txt file do to your site/blog? They give guidelines for search engine bots (tells robotic crawlers how to crawl on your site and what to index).  We normally have a blogger page without a robots tag assigned. If you bought a new domain and want to move your blog to that domain. Here is where you need the custom robot file assigned. Else you will be visited by lots and lots of crawlers, resulting in un-natural views. Also some search engines cant crawl unless  they found a valid robots.txt file. All these can result in poor SEO (Search engine optimization)


Where To Add Robots.txt ?


The robots.txt must be added to the root of your blogger. For this, navigate to

Blogger button (left side)---From the drop down, select settings



 Select search preferences--There you can find custom robots.txt with an edit on the side


What to enter in space provided ?


There are many robots.txt file generators available, but the best practice is to try them out yourself manually. Only problem is that a misconfigured robot directory causes search engines to avoid your site.

1. Allow all bots and allow any action (not preffered by me)

Explanation

Explanation

Explanation


The command only allow specific bots and may result in low traffic. But it is necessary for specific customers having trouble with crawling bots.The disallow being left blank indicates,no restriction is present there.

(Those who with a Netsetter or dongle must not do any other setting here. Those who with a DSL modem can change Flow control to HARDWARE from dropdown)
